Three days spent touring the island with Ria Williams and Emanny Samuel, our driver, taking in so many sites and visiting three different hotels and resorts, was not enough time. I was so impressed by the scenery, food and friendliness of the people…I need to return!
TRANSPORTATION:
Rental Car – Not for the faint of heart. The main highway around the island is great however the auxiliary roads can be narrow, hilly and curvy. Driving on the left side of the road with right hand drive can be challenging.

TOURS:
* Spanny Falls ($10 admission) Trail to waterfall & pool. Rain forest.
* Soma Gardens ($40 admission and light refreshments) Third generation farm. Vaughn, the grandson, collects fruit trees from all over the world and transplants to the Soma Gardens.
* Kalinago Territory ($20) Indigenous native population believed to date back to 3000 BC. Presentation and 50 minute tour of property with local products to purchase. (Originally known as the Caribs, the Kalinago are believed to have originally come from South America and represent the last remaining tribe of the pre-Columbian Carib Indians.
* Whale Watching Sperm whales: Dominica is the only place in the world where sperm whales can be seen all year, though sightings are most common between November and March. Other species include: Humpback Whales, Pilot Whales, False Killer Whales, Melon Head Whales and Pygmy Sperm Whales plus a variety of dolphins including Spotted, Fraser’s and Bottlenose.
* Scotts Head Where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean at the south end of Dominica. Amazing snorkeling at Champagne Reef.
* Chez Wen Rustic beachside bar & restaurant at Scots Head featuring fresh local fish.
* Trafalgar Falls ($5 admission) 15 minute walk, twin waterfalls (“Mama Falls” & “Papa Falls”), ranging from 130-260 feet tall. Hot spots from volcano in the streams. Dominica has nine active volcanoes, making it the only island in the Eastern Caribbean with more than one live volcano.
* Hot Sulphur Springs ($10 admission) Soaking in the various pools encouraged. Also cool-down pools.
* La Cou Melrose House Featuring Farm-to-Table dining within walking distance of Ft Young Hotel.
