PITON MOUNTAINS ON THE ISLAND OF SAINT LUCIA
A geothermal complex with two volcanic plugs is found on the southwestern side of Saint Lucia. And while that description is factually correct, it comes nowhere near capturing the awesome beauty of the sharp, green mountains towering over the jewel-like Caribbean Sea. Petite Piton rises over Soufriere Bay, near the town of the same name, with Gros Piton nearby. Both are part of a landscape bubbling with fumaroles and hot springs. Wildlife abounds on an around the Pitons – both within the rainforest that grows on them, and among the coral reefs in the deep waters below.
